More than 600 Bronx church leaders meet with NYPD

MOTT HAVEN, Bronx (WABC) -- Hundreds packed the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church on Sunday afternoon for a meeting with NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill.

THE BRONX –– More than 600 people from South Bronx churches packed Immaculate Conception Church with one goal in mind: to ask the police commissioner to make sure this community of immigrants is safe for everyone, regardless of immigration status. "I am the grandson of immigrants," NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill told the crowd. "I understand diversity. We are a majority minority police department. That's what it takes to keep this city safe."

Advocates: NYC municipal ID would help immigrants

NEW YORK (AP) - Backers of a proposed New York City municipal ID card said Wednesday that the card would help immigrants, non-drivers and others who may have difficulty obtaining government-issued identification. (click link for more)
